In February 2016, the Burlington Museums Foundation presented a cheque for $1 Million to the Burlington Community Foundation.

"The museum foundation received a generous bequest from Helen Ireland Caldwell in 2010 to help preserve Burlington's heritage,". says John Doyle, Chair of the Burlington Museums Foundation. "Our board decided to transfer the fund management to BCF so our team can focus on the work necessary to preserve and support our museums. BCF's leadership and commitment to our community inspired us to partner with them."

"We feel privileged to manage this legacy fund and look forward to supporting the heritage of our city," says Colleen Mulholland, President and CEO, Burlington Community Foundation. "The bequest from Mrs. Caldwell is an inspiring example of how planned giving can make a long-standing difference in our community."

Creating a Legacy
In our lifetime, most of us aspire to create a legacy; one that leaves lasting memories that will be passed down to our children, families and community. A legacy is about learning from the past, living in the present, and building for the future. Leaving a legacy helps complete the circle of life.

Remember Our Roots
In Burlington, families such as Brant, Ireland and the Smith's have a left a distinct mark that can be seen on buildings, streets, parks and businesses. But, as our City grows and time passes, the challenge will be to ensure that we remember our roots and the proud legacy of our founding members.

Joseph Brant Museum provides an important link between the community and its heritage. We need to tell the story of those individuals and families that have laid the foundation for a better Burlington... “Our Community Builders”.

Thanks to generous citizen donations and government support, we believe we are close to making our dream a reality. A dream that has been in the making for nearly 30 years; the renovation and transformation of the Joseph Brant Museum into the Burlington Community Museum and Heritage Centre; a year-round, fun, interactive, discovery experience...
accessible to all.

Sharing Our Stories
A key element of this exciting project is a permanent exhibition that will tell the story of Burlington’s Community Builders. The Burlington Builders Gallery will consist of three elements:

1. Exhibition

Features objects and archives loaned by Community Builders together with materials from the Museum’s own collection.

2. Virtual Museum

Includes each Community Builder’s family history with photographs and memorabilia that will tell their story and the impact they had on our community. To spread the message to a wider audience, interactive kiosks will be installed at key locations across the city that will include fun, interactive, "edutaining" programming designed to appeal to children and families.

3. Audio Memories Library

Showcases interviews with Community Builders recalling memories of family, fellow citizens and life in Burlington.
